George F. Hermann
George F. Hermann of Waterford, PA, passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021, after a long period of declining health. He was 91 years old. He was born on July 18, 1929, the eldest son of George L. Hermann and Dorothy M. Osborn Hermann.
After marrying Cynthia Alcorn, the young couple started a well drilling business. George was a walking encyclopedia of geologic strata throughout Northwestern PA and nearby areas. In fact, where others had failed, one of his proudest accomplishments was completing a 333 feet deep artesian well on a farm near Clymer, NY.
He was very mechanically inclined and even held a patent for shore piling. Later in his career, he and his wife formed “George Hermann and Sons” Foundation Drilling. Working in nine different states, he took the test borings for many prominent flood control and highway projects.
George enjoyed keeping up with the national and world news. He also loved country and polka music and was quite the dancer in his younger days.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Cynthia, and eight children: Patrick Hermann (Judith) of Cambridge Springs, Levi Hermann (Karen) of FL, Brenda Hermann of CA, Julia Lemock of Waterford, Holly Alexander of Erie, Dr. Karl Hermann (Doris) of TX, Kurt Hermann of CA, and Andrew Hermann (Caroline) of TX. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Donald and Jack Hermann, two grandsons; Nathaniel and Jeremy Lemock, and a son-in-law Ken Lemock.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 13, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with all Covid-19 restrictions in place at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. A private family service will follow.
Memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
