Obituary of Edward R. Stanko

Edward R. Stanko, age 94 of Fairview, passed away at his home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday May 2, 2021. He was born in Fairview, PA on March 13, 1927, a son of the late Joseph J. and Mary (Stefanik) Stanko. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rose Janowski; brother, Paul Stanko; Sister, Mary Carr and sister, Carol Stanko.
Ed proudly served his country in the US Army, during World War II and Korea. He retired from American Sterilizer after 32 years of service. He was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church and was a charter member of New Life Community Church in Fairview, where he served faithfully for many years. Ed had a beautiful tenor singing voice and loved playing the accordion and harmonica, sometimes both at the same time.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years Lucille (Smith) Stanko; three children, Edward R. Stanko Jr. and his wife Chris of McKean, Mark Stanko and his wife Rhonda of Fairview and Robyn Vitson and her husband Jim of Westmont, IL; two grandchildren, Jacob Stanko stationed in Norfolk, VA and Mackenzie Stanko of Lynchburg, VA; step granddaughter, Kim Pietrasiewicz and step great-grandson, Michael Pietrasiewicz. Ed is further survived by one brother, George Stanko of Erie; one sister, Julia Dalton of Erie and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory Inc. 4216 Sterrettania Rd. Erie, PA 16506, on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and are invited to a funeral service there on Thursday morning at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery.
