Shirley A. Torok Fernandes

Shirley A. Torok Fernandes, age 90, of Millcreek Twp., passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, December 4, 2017 at Golden Living-Walnut Creek.  She was born in Erie on April 22, 1927, the daughter of the late Michael J. and Kathryn M. Birk Torok. She was a 1945 graduate of Academy H.S. and was employed at Continental Rubber Work until she turned into a great homemaker who was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, was a Pittsburgh Steeler fan, was a member of Elmwood Presbyterian Church where she sang in the church choir and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years (married on October 1, 1949) Maurice H. “Jr.” Fernandes, two brothers; James and Charles Torok, two nephews; Kevin and James, II Torok, and one daughter-in-law Judy R. Fernandes.

Shirley is survived by her children: Linda K. Fernandes of Millcreek, Rick A. Fernandes of Erie, David M. Fernandes (Brenda) of Erie, her grandchildren: Brian M Fernandes (Lauren Parks) of LA, Sara C. Wick (Andrew) of Colorado Springs, CO, Joey D. Fernandes of Brighton, CO, Jacquelyn Aviles of Erie, two great-grandchildren; Mychael Krahnke, Isabella Aviles, two sisters-in-law; Marilyn and Rita Torok both of Erie, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the medical providers and staff at both St. Vincent Hospital and Golden Living-Walnut Creek for their sincere care they provided for Shirley.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Martin Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 4216 Sterrettania Rd. on Wednesday, December 6, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. until time of service there at 7:00 p.m. Private interment Laurel Hill Cemetery.
